Current profile

At the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), his scientific area changed to accreditation systems in Germany and abroad, the development of new measuring techniques and strategies for calculation of risks during the development of new technologies. Since 1998, he is responsible for the department scientific instrumentation where ultra-precision parts and precision measuring devices are developed and produced. In this department, Frank Löffler founded a new laboratory for micro technology and micro assembly. In these new fields, he continues his scientific research in thin film technologies which is often the key technique in the development of new precision measuring devices and micro technology.
Since 1989, Frank Löffler has given lectures on various subjects, all in the field of material science. He currently gives lectures on „environmental aspects in material science“. He supervised more than 30 diploma theses and two doctoral theses. He is a member of several international scientific working groups, e. g. co-investigator of the Satellite Test of Equivalence Principle (STEP) project. He holds diverse scientific awards, e. g. the Springorum Denkmuenze, the Borchers Plakette and the Bunshah Award. His scientific work is documented by over 170 scientific and technical publications in proceedings, journals and books.
