In 1991, Stephanus Büttgenbach was appointed full professor of microtechnology at the TU Braunschweig, Germany. His major scientific interests were new techniques of micromachining, magnetic MEMS, lab-on-chip, micro plasmas, shape memory alloy actuators, micro sensors and MEMSCAD. He was also one of the founders of the Cooperative Research Center SFB 516 "Design and fabrication of active micro systems" of the TU Braunschweig and has been its chairman since 2005. From 1999 to 2001, Stephanus Büttgenbach was Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Vice President of Research and Technology Transfer of the TU Braunschweig from 2004 to 2006. Stephanus Büttgenbach has long experience in teaching and supervision of PhD and diploma students since the beginning of the seventies.
