Position determination of multi-coordinate drives with large work space

The most existing multi-coordinate drives were developed for relatively high-precision applications with small moving ranges such as semiconductor manufacturing systems, machining tools, laser-cutting systems and others. In such drives optical measuring systems, such as laser interferometer or optical incremental measuring systems are applied.

At the same time, there are number of applications, such as special transport and logistic systems, where reliable multi-coordinate drives with large moving ranges and without highest requirements on precision are needed. For such requirements, the unstructured induction motor principle seems to be well suitable. The purpose of the proposed project is based on the state of the art the development and investigation of a position measuring system, which allow the determination of two lateral and one rotational coordinates of multi-coordinate drive. The measuring system must be suitable for large scale moving and should be integrated in the drive system.
