Synthesis, structure analysis and application of modified polysaccharides:

  • Development of methods for the determination of the substitution pattern of starch, cellulose and cyclodextrin ethers and esters on various structural levels, i.e. regioselectivity in the monomer unit, distribution of substituents along the polymer chain, topochemical effects of starch granule architecture
  • Synthesis of model compounds for the development of quantitative MS-methods (MALDI-TOF-MS, ESI-MSn) in oligosaccharide derivative analysis from chemical or enzymatic degradation of polysaccharide derivatives
  • Synthesis, analysis and application of new functionalised polysaccharides from unsaturated reactive intermediates, e.g. starch O-propargyl ethers
  • Further instrumental techniques, mainly used: ESI-IT-MS, MALDI-TOF-MS, GC-FID, GC-MS, CE-DAD, HPAEC-PAD, ATR-IR, NMR spectroscopy

Teaching experience since 1988 in Organic Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Analytical Methods, Practical Analytical Courses, Gender Affairs. Further activities: Agnes-Pockels-SchülerInnenlabor for children and pupils aged 6–18; education for teachers.
