Lock-In Amplifier

Lecture

How can you detect a weak signal buried in experimental noise? The important trick is to reduce the detection bandwidth. I will explain what that means and why it helps.

In the main part of this lecture, we will discuss the lock-in amplifier. This is a crucial device for so-called phase-sensitive detection with a reduced bandwidth. It is of great importance in a wide range of experimental sciences, from biology to physics. If there is still time near the end of the lecture, I will show what all this has to do with FM radio.
