SI-traceable measurement of viral load by isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS)

In der Dissertation wird es u.a. darum gehen, HIV Proteine für die Bestimmung der HIV-Viruslast in Patientenproben mittels der Massenspektrometrie (IDMS) zu quantifizieren. Die HIV-Viruslast im Blut von HIV-infizierten Patienten für die Diagnostik und Therapie wird üblicherweise über RT-PCR Messungen bestimmt. Da die RT-PCR-Messergebnisse oft schwanken und abhängig vom Assay/Hersteller und Laboren sind, ist die Idee entstanden, eine unabhängige Methode für die Virusquantifizierung zu etablieren, die auf die Detektion von viralen Proteinen und nicht auf viraler RNA basiert.

Absolute distance measurement

Most of the length measuring interferometers are working incrementally. Thus beam interruptions are causing errors in distance measurement. This interruptions might happen accidentally by parts moving through the beam or on purpose when the distance to different mirrors shall be measured. To afford distance measurements with possible beam interruptions an absolute length measurement is needed.

Single-charge effects in short arrays of small Josephson junctions

Focus:

Small Josephson junctions exhibit charging effects that are predicted to result in a behaviour which is the electromagnetic dual to the well-known Josephson oscillations and constant-voltage Shapiro steps, namely Bloch oscillations and constant-current steps. This makes them a possible candidate for a current standard. The observation of these effects requires a high-impedance electromagnetic environment and very low temperatures.
