The application process
Applications have to be submitted via the online application system which is available after registration with your name and email address. To access the registration form, click on the "Register" button below. (only available during application periods). You will receive an automatic confirmation via email with further instructions. All information must be entered in English and relevant documents can be uploaded (maximum filesize 4MB or 8 MB). You can complete your application during several sessions. Existing entries will be saved and can be changed after your next login.
Tests such as TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and CPE (Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English) are not mandatory but recommended for students whose first language is neither English nor German. Applicants who have taken such tests should upload the corresponding documents where indicated.
GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) are not mandatory but should be included in the application if available.
Letter of motivation and scientific interests
Applicants are asked to select two alternative projects they are interested to perform their PhD in. The sections "Letter of motivation" and "Scientific interests" are of specific interest for the selection procedure and should receive careful attention.
Two references are mandatory. Please be prepared to upload copies of these references and mention the personal data of the particular referee.
